A little ritual

Make every burn count.

A few thoughtful habits can help your candle burn beautifully and turn lighting it into a moment you look forward to.

The simple way

Care for the candle. Keep the feeling.

01

First burn

Let the wax melt evenly to the edges of the vessel the first time you light it. A little patience now helps create a more even burn later.

02

Wick trimming

Before each burn, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. It helps keep the flame calm and the experience tidy.

03

Burn time

Give your candle a few hours when you light it, but avoid burning for more than four hours at a time.

04

An even wax pool

Once the top is liquid and level, your candle is having a good burn. Keep it on a steady surface while this happens.

05

Avoid drafts

Place your candle away from open windows, fans, and busy walkways. A calm flame burns more consistently.

06

When to stop

Stop burning when about 1/2 inch of wax remains. This keeps the vessel from getting too hot.

07

Safe placement

Set your candle on a heat-safe, stable surface with plenty of room around it. Keep it away from anything that can catch fire.

08

Between burns

Let the candle cool completely, then store it somewhere dry and out of direct sunlight with the lid on, if it has one.

Candle safety

Keep the flame beautiful—and safe.

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep it away from children, pets, flammable objects, and places where it may be knocked over. Extinguish the flame if it becomes tall, smoky, or unsteady, and always allow the vessel to cool before moving it.
